Holding

This option allows a store to hold the required amount on the customer's card instead of charging it right away. The payment can then be confirmed or canceled

Why enable holding

Cancel orders without commission
Unlike regular refunds, holding lets a store cancel a payment without paying a fee
Accept prepayments or reserve items
This gives both you and your customer confidence that the order is secured
Return money quickly
If the customer cancels the order or something goes wrong on your side, the funds can be released within a few hours. With a regular refund, it may take up to 30 business days

Who may use it

Hotels
You can freeze the money when a room is booked, ensuring the customer has sufficient funds on their account
Car rental or equipment rental services
When a customer rents something, you can take a prepayment by holding funds on their account. This also protects the service if the item isn't returned or is damaged
Online stores
Useful if you sell products that are often returned, such as clothing or complex equipment. With payment holds, you can simply cancel the hold instead of making a refund

How to activate

  1. Sign up for YooMoney
  2. Set up payment acceptance via the YooMoney API
  3. When creating a payment, your website should pass the capture parameter with the false value via the API. In this case, the amount will be held on the customer's account instead of charging the funds. Learn more in the documentation

FAQ

Delayed payments are enabled for free, you only need to be a YooMoney client. Payment acceptance commissions are listed

Receipts can be sent in two ways: automatically or manually. In the first case, YooMoney automatically sends a receipt through the online sales register as soon as the payment is held. If the amount has changed during the confirmation of holding, the sales register sends a refund receipt for the full amount and then a new receipt for the captured amount. In the second case, a store manager creates a receipt manually when it's necessary.

Delayed payments in YooMoney are currently supported only in rubles. If the customer pays in another currency, the ruble equivalent is frozen at the exchange rate on the day of holding. If the rate changes by the time the payment is debited, the purchase will be canceled and a new amount will be charged.

Funds stay on account until the issuing bank releases the hold. As a rule, banks keep a hold for 7 days. If the money isn't captured within this time, they may be returned to the customer.
