F.A.Q.

In order to accept both cash and cashless payments: by physical cards, via online banking, FPS, and payment services. Merchant acquiring expands retail opportunities as different payment methods allow customers to select a preferable option, while businesses can serve visitors faster.

If you accept payments in cash, you have to pay the financial institution for encashment, transportation, and storage of funds. There's also a risk of receiving a counterfeit money. When you use acquiring, you don't have to care about this.

Retail outlets that support multiple payment methods are ahead of their competitors that accept only cash or money transfers. The latter methods are not only inconvenient, but also fully depend on the Internet connection. If there's low-end connection, customers can't pay for the purchase. In this case, your business loses the profit. To avoid this, you need to enable cashless payments.

The onboarding procedure is about the same for all banks and payment services. In YooMoney, for example, you need to fill in an application form, then you get a Merchant Profile, after which a personal manager helps you to set it up.

Next, you need to draw up the contract. This may be done online by using a scan of your store director's passport.

POS systems are used for connection in retail outlets to accept payments via smartphones. This payment method is optimal for stores.

Another convenient option is making payments via the bank's app by QR code. This code needs to be scanned by a smartphone camera and allows the seller to significantly reduce commission costs.

Online retail sellers need to sign up for YooMoney. Money crediting within a day, 10 payment methods, free onboarding. Commission from 2.8% is charged only for successful payments.

In addition to the merchant, this chain involves the customer and the issuing bank. There's also an acquiring bank which provides the store with cashless payment services. Plus, it involves tha payment system that used by both issuing and acquiring banks.

In practice, the customer inserts or tap the card (smartphone) against the terminal. Then, the acquirer submits an authorization request for debiting money to the issuing bank through the payment system. If there're sufficient funds, the issuing bank puts the corresponding amount on hold, then sends a command to the acquirer to authorize the payment. The acquiring terminal confirms successful payment and money is sent to the recipient.

The rate depends on the acquirer or payment aggregator.

Commission amount is also affected by the following factors:

  • Type of business: an acquiring rate is lower for eating establishments than for electronics stores.
  • Company's turnover: the higher turnover, the lower commission.
  • Operation region: different regions of Russia have different economic conditions.
  • MCC code: a designation of the merchant's category. It's used by the bank to identify the type of transaction and commission amount to be charged.
